The whole reason I posted this: @ 2:07
I saw Canadian band Austra–who take their name from the Latvian goddess of light–play at Circolo degli Artisti in Rome back in April and they blew me away. Lead vocalist Katie Stelmanis trained as an opera singer from the age of ten and went on to sing for the Canadian Opera Company. At some point along the way she attended a punk rock show and decided she wanted to start her own band instead, and “make classical music with really fucked up, distorted crazy shit on there.”
Austra’s music is eerie synth-pop infused with bone chilling vocals. Their live show is not to be missed.
Am I aware that I haven’t posted anything for three weeks? Yes… it’s summer… chill out.
Okay, okay, take this playlist as a token of my enduring love and devotion… and rest assured knowing that something called IBN 2.0 is coming out soon. What is it? I don’t know… it’s summer… chill out.
The Doe Bay Festival is folk/acoustic music festival held on a lake somewhere in Washington. It looks like about the most awesome experience that could ever exist.
The Head & The Heart, John Vanderslice, Damien Jurado, Champagne Champagne and many more will be playing. This year the festival takes place on August 11-14, which happens to be just the right time to prevent many of us from going.
Perfectly edited video featuring The Head and The Heart’s ‘Rivers and Roads.’
Thank you Joey Kelly.
